It was my birthday. I am 24. Wounded. We had a Coffee and Cake birthday party for myself and a friend. I think it’s now official, Coffee and Cake club is possibly one of the best events in the city because it’s chilled and showcases great talent, all in the space of our living room.  Coffee and Cake even made it into the Big Issue last week but I didn’t get the chance to buy it.  That’s a lie, I did walk past many many many Big Issue sellers (who doesn’t?) but I have major trust issues with them. I have heard far too many stories about people giving them money for a magazine and then the seller claiming the magazine is their last copy and they need to keep it.  I realise the Big Issue is supposed to be there in order to help the homeless and also has some really great content, but it’s not good practice when the sellers scam you out of your pound.

I tried to quit smoking on the night of my birthday.. it really didn’t work. In fact it is still not working. I am a failure. I’m off to roll a smoke.

Good news though, my film scanner arrives in a few days so I can finally start scanning what I’ve been shooting more recently. It actually pains me to touch my digital camera right now.

Spot the theme. Unfortunately, none of the below are mine, yet!

Shaved

I shaved and then went to work and listened to Heaven 17. I will actually post a worthwhile blog soon, promise.

I get to meet Beyonce’s sister again tonight, I hope. She is a very bizarre character who I assume is easily amused especially after her amazement when seeing some public toilets with pretty seats the last time I saw her. It’s also gay pride weekend, so many many colourful gay, lesbian and straight people  GLAS. Maybe I will be able to take some shots in between working? Hopefully.

Anyway, this is me.

Brilliant.

These Sundays always drag a little up until 4pm (home time).  We’re empty because we’re pretty much in the middle of nowhere but of the best things about this place is that I get to look at beauties like this.

I like my workspace too.

As you can tell, I’m a little bored.

Olympus OM-1
February 28, 2009, 12:58

A boy gave me an Olympus OM-1 to use a few weeks ago to replace my little Chinon which was also a gift from a boy too, go figure. Anyway, I’m going to use this camera a lot over the coming months but as I haven’t got a darkroom (yet), I’m going to have to send them off to a local specialist lab and wish for the best. That or send them to Vienna for my partner in crime to develop, but that’s just looooooong.

We ran some Kodak 125 plus-x film through the Olympus and shot on a prime 50/1.8 lens to check everything was all in order and clean etc. The negatives themselves were dirty (they were a small section of a big batch to be developed – long story) but the lens and camera are in working order now. So I just need to get my hands on a 35mm that opens up nice and wide too. Anybody fancy giving me one.. boys.. ? ;)

Here’s a few of images. Lol.. it seems as though we just take photographs of each other but I promise, we really don’t. It was just to run the film.

p.s. I would like to state that is was in fact Severin (http://severinkoller.at), my boyfriend, who gave me the Olympus and not that it is an almost compulsory requirement for boys to give me cameras. If only it was, I’d be a very happy lady.

Oh and how could I forget. This month’s Coffee and Cake took place on Sunday 22nd February and it was brilliant. Possibly one of the best and I can’t put my finger on why. I know live in this house, by the way, fun times indeed. This month saw Gemma Quartman and Boat to Row in the living room and there was even a singalong to Bruce Springsteen’s Dancing in the Dark. It’s far too rock and roll to even comprehend. I’ll stick the videos up next week but for now, here’s some snaps taken by both myself and the delectable Severinaroony Koller.

This whole blog thing is getting there slowly but surely, maybe next time I will have something worthwhile to say, eh? Probably not though..

Coffee and Cake Club’s First Birthday!

So here goes!

Once a month a good friend of mine holds a gathering we like to call Coffee and Cake Club. Basically, usually once a month – but always on a Sunday – she has one or two local bands play in her lounge and provides all the club’s guests with free tea, coffee, hot chocolate if you’re lucky and an assortment of cakes and biscuits. I personally think it’s bloody lovely, and that a completely unbiased opinion.. honest. As lovely as it is already and has been over the last 12 months, the two more recent Coffee and Cakes have upped the stakes completely.

Please note, I didn’t take any of these photographs in order to create a blog, I literally just decided I needed to post something so I apologise for the sporadic changes from photo to photo. :D

Jeremy Warmsley

Jeremy Warmsley popped over for a little set before heading off to his ‘real’ gig of the evening and was followed by the lovely Anna Palmer.

Anna Palmer

Last night’s Coffee and Cake was just as impressive! Cassie managed to get Adam Ficek of Babyshambles to play a few songs for us, again, before his ‘real’ gig of the evening and was then followed by a local band called The Tantrums.

This actually a cake by the way. It’s Coffee and Cake’s 1st Birthday cake made by the amazing Ramona.  Nobody wanted to touch it for a while.

Adam walked in and wasn’t greeted as a celebrity, which I always think is the best way.  He was a funny guy, with the best cockney accent. Well, I think it was cockney… ?

Despite it’s name, coffee and Cake allows you the choice to bring booze if you want to but I think yesterday’s amount of booze was a C&C record.

It’s funny how we all try to fit into the lounge comfortably. There were people in the kitchen, on the floor, in the hallway on chair backs.. all over the place.

The Student Guide = a friends magazine, so this photo was a must.

My housemate but soon to be ex housemate as of Wednesday. :’( I’m moving.. funnily enough to the house where C&C is held.

The Tantrums. Originally Scarlet Harlots were supposed to be playing but they’re too busy being on the telly with the likes of Alex Zane.

Maz and Skally Gee decided to take over the gig… I was confused at this point so went to go and eat more cake.

To think C and C all began out of a quiet night in with a friend, her guitar and cups of tea.

Here is a video of last years Coffee and Cake with Untitled Musical Project.

The Blog

I haven’t had one of these things in years and from what I can remember, it wasn’t really that interesting and maybe only a little bit inspiring. If I’m honest, I read about two or three blogs myself and that’s usually just to look at the pretty pictures! Anyway, let’s see how this goes… I’ve already spent the last forty five minutes figuring out which colours I want to use. God bless being a girl.

p.s. I’m the funny looking character in the header. Nice to meet you and watch this space.
